How are you doing as a leader?
Leadership skills are important. There are countless opportunities to practice leadership skills at home, work, and during the other parts of your life. Practice is the key to mastering any skill, so practice being a leader regularly.
Those that lead think differently from those that follow. Ask yourself, do you have the thought process of a leader?
Do you see life’s challenges through the eyes of a great leader. Leaders have control over their thoughts and make intelligent decisions with a long-term focus.
Great leaders are made. Some believe that leaders are born, I believe that to be true but great leaders are made. I think of one of my favorite Bible stories of Jesus and his disciples. He started with a motley crew of guys who were average, working class citizens and developed them into great leaders that sustained Jesus's ministry after his ascension that has continued for over 2000 years!
Leaders handle situations confidently and competently and are open to the thoughts and opinions of others, but able to make a final decision on your own.
Communication skills also demonstrate leadership abilities. The ability to communicate ideas clearly and to motivate others to do their best.
Listening skills are exceptionally important as a leader. Listening can be more important than talking.
Leaders are not always at the top of the heap. This is often referred to as leading up. Play to your strengths and lead from your current postion. When the time comes, you will advance to a role that is meant for you.
