Today, one of our team members, Evens Blanc gave us the overview of the Book of Joshua and how it relates to leadership from his perspective.

Evens’ Book Review 8/30/19

Book of Joshua Summary

Genre: The genre of the book of Joshua is Narrative History. It was authored by Joshua the leader of the Israelites circa 1405-1383 B.C. It was written to assure the Israelites the Living God will reward obedience, and also to record the entrance and conquest of the promise land.

Theme: Joshua demonstrates his faith in God as He follows the orders given to Him and takes leadership of the nation. Joshua truly was “strong and courageous” (1:7).

Leadership Themes:

1. Joshua was fearless

2. Joshua was faithful

3. Joshua was ruthless

4. Joshua was a great communicator

5. Joshua was focused.

My Takeaways

1. A great leader is also a great follower

2. A good leader must not be a people pleaser

3. A good leader will do what needs to be done, especially in the face of adversity.

This year we started a new book club for our team which required each team member to read a book, article or something and report to the team how the information related to their role at work or for the company as a whole.

When we first started the book club this year, the team was skeptical and we had a few uncertainties. But overall, we have had some great Cliff Notes, high level reviews of books and of course had an opportunity to learn the content and advantages of a few more books.
